Earth Moving-Saturday 9

If you're not familiar with today's song, you can hear it here.

1) This song is from the album Tapestry, one of the all-time best-sellers (more than 25,000,000 copies sold worldwide). Is it in your collection? Yes, it is on our ITunes.  I love Carole King.

2) It's about that glorious passion you feel when you first fall for someone. How many times have you been in love? Just one time. With Mr Bankerchick.....all the rest have been crushes from long ago.

3) San Francisco radio stations briefly removed "I Feel the Earth Move" from their playlists after the 1989 earthquake. Have you ever been in an earthquake and literally felt "the earth move under your feet?" I am a former CA resident and I remember a lot of the more recent earth quakes.  They have never inflicted any personal damage for me, other that one time some dishes etc. fell out of the cupboards and our TV was knocked of the shelf and was hanging by its cord.

4) Carole King is the first and only woman to win the Gershwin Prize for songwriting from the Library of Congress. Here's your chance to brag a little -- tell us about an accolade you have received.  Well, over the years I have been employee of the month, Whoop, Whoop!

5) Carole wrote "You've Got a Friend," which was a mega hit for her good pal, James Taylor. King and Taylor have known one another for more than 40 years, but have never been romantically involved. Do you have any platonic friends of the opposite sex?  Sure, I have had some men friends.  I don't have any close men friends any more, other than Mr BC.  He is my best Friend, who I have known and loved for many years, but he can't be considered platonic.

6) Like more than 80% of the population, Carole is right handed. Are you right handed, left handed (10%) or that most rare of all, ambidextrous (less than 10%)? I am part of the 80%.  Life can cause problems for the Lefties.  One of the grandsons seems to be a lefty.

7) One of Carole King's earliest hits was Little Eva's "The Loco-Motion." Little Eva was the teenager King hired to care for her young children. Tell us about a sitter who cared for you when you were little.  My Grandparents were generally my baby sitter, and my lovely Aunt Nettie.  Some times, one of my mom's sister.  Always family.

8) Beautiful is the title of the Broadway play about Carole King's life. If we were producing your lifestory, what would you want us to call it?  Maybe....Send in the Clowns.

9) Carole wrote "Pleasant Valley Sunday," the Monkees' song about conspicuous consumption. When Crazy Sam looks at her crowded shelf of hair products (paraben-free conditioner, keratin-restoring conditioner, hair masque, hot oil conditioner …), she realizes she's guilty of it herself. Have you bought anything recently that you later decided was a waste of money?  I bought a Roomba several years ago, which was a real waste of money.  Recently, I have bought some diet products that have been a waste of money as well.  I bought a Thunder Shirt for my puppie, Miss Gwennie that did not work well for her.  I am sure there are more things that I just can't remember.

Let's Have Iced Coffee and a Chat- #145

1.  What do you think you would have liked most from my menu?  The mango chicken salad and I love roasted sweet potatoes. The whole menu sounded delightful.
2.  Have you ever had an interesting experience with serving dinner guests?  One time I put my dessert on top of the fridge ( I had no other space).  When I opened the fridge it fell off and all over me and the floor.
3.  What's your favorite beverage, this summer? International Delight Lite Caramel Machiatto Ice Coffee...I have a glass every morning instead of hot coffee.
4.  Do you ever have bouquets of fresh flowers in your home?  No, not at present.  I do get them during holidays.
5.  Tell me something interesting. Please.  We will be going to a Bluegrass Festival for 4th of July week.  We are going Tuesday to get a good spot for the RV, with our best friends Maggie and Jiggs.  It is our first outing this season.

Hot Songs- Saturday 9

Saturday 9: LIttle Red Corvette
(recommended by Smellyann)

No link this week. Prince apparently is very strict about copyright infringement.

1) The subject of this song is frankly sexual. Do you blush easily? Not much any more, it takes a lot to make this old lady blush.  I found a link at Metacafe Here and I do remember the song....I usually miss the sexual references in music. I just listen to the tune.

2) Prince is his real name (Prince Rogers, to be exact). Growing up, his relatives called him "Skipper." Do you have any nicknames within your family? KatyDid.

3) Prince says he's "obsessed" with Mozart and reads whatever he can find about the composer. What's the last book you read? I just finished Messenger by Lois Lowrey. It is book 3 of The Giver Quartet. Kwizgiver has a good post about The Giver this week. I have seen a trailer for the movie and I think it must be based on the quartet as I had seen scenes that I did not recognize from the book.  I wonder if liberties were taken, probably!

4) Between Prince and The Beach Boys, the Corvette is a much sung-about car. Tell us about your vehicle.  I drive a 2004 Cadillac CTS and I love it!  Mr BC is currently restoring a 1961 TR-3A it will be cool and has other British sports cars that have been restored.  It should look like this when it is done.

5) In the 1980s, when Prince was popular, MTV could turn a song into a hit. In 2014, how do you hear new music? On the Today Show summer concert series, today it was Fallout Boy and I did recognize some of their music.  I have found some good music that I would ordinarily not hear.

6) In 1982, when "Little Red Corvette" ruled the airwaves, Braniff Airways shocked the travel industry and threw passengers into chaos by declaring bankruptcy. When did you last fly? Did your trip go smoothly?  It is not as much fun to fly anymore.  The last trip I made was in March when I was out in CA visiting the Grandsons. I had to make 2 layovers in order to fly in and out of Santa Barbara....that makes a long day.  This was the first time they lost my luggage.  It showed up the next day.

7) 1982 is also the year Disney opened Epcot. Have you ever been to a Disney park?  Been to Disney Land more times that I can count.  I went the first year they opened in 1955 and the last time I went was in 2011 for my Grandson's first visit.  I was raised in SoCal.  I have never been to any other of the other parks, and don't think I will at this point.  Both of the boys have been now.  Back in the day....you never got enough of these....

8) 1982 is the year Cheers premiered. The sitcom was set in a bar where "everybody knows your name." Tell us about your favorite local bar or restaurant. When we lived in CA we use to have a favorite called Honolulu Harrys. It has been bought out and is still a luau themed restaurant but not the same.  When ever we asked where do you want to go it was always....
Honolulu Harrys.

9) The 1980s were considered a highpoint in professional tennis, with Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe dominating the sport. Do you play tennis? We lived in an apartment in Cincinnati many years that had a tennis court and I took lessons, but didn't care for it enough to keep it up.  I never had anyone to play with.

Chat #144

1.  Do you like lemon-aid? Any special flavors?  I love fresh lemonade and I am real fond of strawberry-lemonade.

2.  I'm trying not to use paper goods for this party. How many place settings of silverware(eating utensils) could you come up with? I wish I could borrow some. Before I moved I could probably come up with place settings for about 20.  But my good stuff is still packed away and I got rid of my everyday, because I had my MIL's here at the house and I liked it better than mine. I read this wrong.  I could come up with about 40 place settings of 'silver'ware.  I have a full set of 12 of my grandmother's silver, my wedding silver, and lots of misc stainless.

3.  Have you ever been to a party in a barn? No, but I have seen such things in pictures and Pinterest!  Yours sounds lovely and I bet Wendell will come.

4.  Do you wear nail polish? Not any more.  I use to get a manicure and pedicure about every 2 weeks when I worked.  I can't polish my own nails....what a mess. I just deal with plain nails now days.

5.  Please finish this sentence. I wish I could.......sing or play a musical instrument or had some artistic talent.

Oh! Papa- Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Oh! My Papa (1954)

If you're not familiar with today's song, you can hear it here.

1) Eddie Fisher starred in a popular 1950s TV show, which was sponsored by Coca Cola. Do you have a favorite soft drink? I am currently fond of Diet Sierra Mist mixed with cran/pom juice.  I drink a lot of Ice tea/coffee too.

2) He was notorious for leaving his famous first wife for his very famous second wife. Can you name either of the women involved in this Hollywood scandal? Debbie Reynolds and Liz Taylor..Big scandal at the time.  They didn't stay together too long once Richard Burton came along.  When Angelina Jolie snagged Brad Pitt, it reminded me of it.  Especially when they painted 'poor' Jennifer Anniston in the 'poor' Debbie roll.

3) His oldest daughter, Carrie Fisher, is best known as Princess Leia from Star Wars. Are you a sci-fi fan? Oh yes, I love Sci-Fi  especially with the special effects that a possible now.  I always liked that mankind had improved so much in the Star Trek world.  I would go to Mars to live, if I could take my dogs.

4) Since Sam's father is particular about his footwear and likes "a good pair of Cole Haan loafers," her Father's Day present to him is a DSW gift card. If we were to give you a gift card to any store or restaurant, which would you choose?Well, Mr BC would like a Camping World card or Lowes card.  I would like a T J Maxx card.

5) Sam's father hates it when she swears. When is the last time your cursed?
I probably said S*** sometime yesterday.

6) Sam's father is a voracious reader. So much so that the local librarian knows him on sight and by name. How often do you visit your neighborhood library? I am a kindle user and haven't been to the library in a long time.  Our closest library is a refurbished Carnegie Library.

Webb City MO
7) "A good used car is a better investment than a new car." That's what Sam's dad tells her when she's in the market for wheels. Share some other words of financial wisdom with us.

8) Every car her father has ever owned had a pro-union bumper sticker. Do you have any bumper stickers on your vehicle? We don't have any bumper stickers, but we do name all of our vehicles.  Mr BC is trying to think of a good name for the '61 TR-3 he is finally having restored.  Mr BC names all of our cars

9) To celebrate Father's Day, Sam is giving away her father's favorite candy: LifeSavers. Would you prefer a roll of Wild Cherry, Butter Rum, Winter Green or Peppermint? Butter Rum

Walk this Way Saturday 9

If you're not familiar with today's song, you can hear it here.
1) This song is about a young man who takes advantage of his "big chance at a high school dance." Share a memory from your high school years.  I don't have a lot of good memories of high school.  It was an awkward time for me.  I can remember falling on the front steps one morning much to the amusement of all the folks who hung out there.  I went to one dance and never went again.  I did not blossom until I went to college.

2) Lead singer Steven Tyler is the son of a working mother (mom Susan was a secretary). Did your mother work outside the home?  Not until Junior High.  She was my dad's legal secretary, when he went into business for himself.

3) Onstage, Tyler takes colorful scarves from around his neck and drapes them over the microphone. Do you accessorize your outfits with scarves and belts? Or do you prefer to keep things simple? Simple, I don't accessorize my shorts and sweats......!

4) Tyler confessed to having a massive crush on Jennifer Lopez, his fellow judge on American Idol. Do you think a coworker has ever had a crush on you?  If someone did...I was never aware of it.

5) Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry says seeing The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 inspired him to go into music. How did you end up in your chosen profession?  My best friend from high school, a good memory, recommended me for a job at her bank.  I was in banking ever since.

6) Perry's hobby, breeding horses, is very lucrative. What are your hobbies? I use to do needle work until my hands and eyes stopped me.  I like to refinish furniture and read.  Of course I like to blog and hang out on my computer, much to Mr BC consternation.

7) Aerosmith performed before their biggest-ever TV audience when they played the Super Bowl halftime show in 2001. Are you a football fan? If so, do you prefer college football or the NFL? What teams do you root for? NO!

 8) Now that we're into summer, the days are longer. When is the last time you watched the sun set? Well, it has been raining here for 2 weeks and we haven't seen the sun for quite a while.  I am looking forward to the end. Moss is growing on my north side.

9) What time did you go to sleep last night? About 10:00 every night, we read for a while and then turn the lights out.  I am up early usually and some times nap during the afternoon.
